You find yourself walking down the hallway with the light shining down your bedroom door at the end of a looooong day: finally, the time of the day to unwind.
Your bedroom. Your space. Your time.
That is all you can think about until you open the door. BLAH. That is all you feel.
This post is for you, here are 7 expert tips to bring your master bedroom to sanctuary status by making it the coziest most inviting space in your home.
Make it yours. Make it cozy. Make it perfect.
TIP #1: TEXTURE
Add texture to your space by incorporating blankets, throw pillows, curtains. Create that feeling of wanting to touch things. This makes a room feel cozy, and if one space in your house needs to feel cozy it’s your bedroom.
Here are some examples of how to incorporate texture into your space
1 / 2 – HAMLET INTERIORS / 3 – LAURIE’S HOME FURNISHINGS
As you can see you can add texture to your room through textiles, rugs, furniture, plants, etc. Notice that some of the rooms that make the best use of texture are the ones that mix up the different forms of texture mentioned before.
TIP #2: COLOR
Choosing the right color is critical when putting a space together, and this statement is 1000 times more important in your bedroom.
The psychology of color is real. It’s a thing. You need to pay attention to color and its effect on your mood and how you feel when choosing paint color.
We look for cozy, inviting, safe spaces to call out sanctuary that is why natural colors tend to be the go to colors for bedrooms.

TIP #3: LIGHTING
We don’t want our bedroom to feel like an operating table, we want it to feel inviting and relaxing. Can you feel the trend here?
Lighting is an important factor in creating the right ambiance in a room
1 – AMY CARROLL / 2 / 3 – LAWSON ROBB
Add a chandelier, lights over your night tables, and accent lights BUT the key is for them to be dimmable.
Being able to dim the lights gives you the flexibility of creating the ambiance you want when you want it.
TIP #4: BEDDING
Give yourself the pleasure of sleeping on a bed with good quality bedding. Everything changes the moment you indulge in nice bedding.
Bedding is more than just the sheets; it includes the sheets, the comforter, the duvet, and the pillows – even the decorative ones.
1 – LIFE ON VIRGINIA STREET / 2 – STUDIO MCGEE / 3 – ALEXANDER WHITE
We spend soooo much of your life sleeping that it isn’t right to just buy the cheapest pair of sheets you find, do your research test sheets out: touch them in store, and when you are ready make the investment.
You will thank me.

TIP #5: SMELLS
The sense of smell isn’t important only because it can alert of us, if needed, of any fire for example nearby. In this particular case the sense of smell is very important because it is closely linked to parts of the brain that process emotion and memory.
There are many ways we can now indulge our sense of smell in our design, and help magnify that relax and inviting feeling we are going for.
Essential oil diffusers, candles, wax melts, room spray, linen sprays, etc. are just some ways you too can incorporate smells.
TIP #6: RUG
One of my favorite elements to add some warmth to a space is to add a rug.
Not only will it anchor your room, it will add warmth, and make it feel more inviting.
1 – DOMINO / 2 / 3 – KATIE HODGES
A rug adds so much texture, color, and visual interest that it’s one of my favorite ways to add life and character to a space.
You can totally change up the look of your space by updating your area rugs, and it’s also a great way to add color and/or graphic elements to a fairly neutral space.

TIP #7: LAYER
Layer things up, layering makes spaces look inviting and interesting.
Layer up pillows, bedding, accessories, rugs, etc. basically all the decorative elements you add to a room to create interest, texture, and depth.
1 / 2 – RACHEL FOLLETT / 3
Creating layers through your space adds personality, creates point of visual interest, adds warmth and helps create ambiance in a space.
Make sure to try some of this things out in your space, they are small changes that can have a huge impact on how your space feels.
