Craving black accent pieces is what gave the inspiration to write this board, to get that fear out of black that so many people have. Let’s start with the basics: in the visible spectrum white reflects light and is the equivalent of the presence of all colors, and black absorbs light and is the absence of color.
I love adding black details to a room; this doesn’t mean that the room is gothic, or emo, or any label you associate with black. Black pieces can serve tons of purposes depending on how you use them: they can anchor a room, it can also be used to make other pieces stand out, and it can act as a focal point.
As you can see by this first inspiration image this pieces can work together, or alone in any room and they will be talking pieces not necessarily because of the design they have but because your eye immediately goes to them.
This image also serves to reinforce the idea that black doesn’t have to feel Gothic, or emo or hard rock – which I feel is that people are afraid of it specially when it comes to interior design. This design board has a classic feeling to me, this pieces will even go well with more contemporary pieces and still make the room work.
I also tend to use a lot of black when I chose my outfit for the day, I always tend to have something black on me but my favorite things are black accessories.
You don’t have to have everything black to make a statement, I think it works even better when you have a just a couple of pieces that you really want to stand out – this works the same way for interiors and for accessories.
Let me know what you think!
