If you are trying to incorporate a new style into your space but aren’t sure where to start I have a guide for you today on how to incorporate modern industrial elements to create a look that is timeless. This post is full of inspiration and tips, using a stunning project by Croma Design as a guide so that it will be easier for you to visualize that interior space that you are craving but aren’t sure how to achieve it.
MODERN INDUSTRIAL INSPIRATION
One of the best ways to get inspiration and figure out what works and doesn’t work for a space is to do a little research and look for spaces that have that look you are craving. When looking for modern industrial interiors it’s important that you go through this process because some spaces can be too masculine or feminine, others can be too modern for your taste, others can be too cold. Here is where balance comes in: finding that perfect balance of what you are looking for and works for you is crucial. The stunning modern industrial loft created by Croma Design featured on today’s post is the perfect example of a modern industrial space that is well balanced and perfectly put together.
MODERN INDUSTRIAL LOFT BY CROMA DESIGN
This modern industrial loft design by Croma Design, a design firm based in Toronto headed by Amy Kent and Ryan Martin, is the perfect example of how to maintain a timeless and sophisticated appeal while using modern industrial elements throughout your design.
Living Room
The modern color palette that is set up by the dark wood floors serves as the perfect modern background to emphasize the sleek modern feeling that this industrial loft achieves. The living room is one of my favorite spaces because of the clean color palette and how it incorporates the colorful rug not only to anchor the space but also to bring in a playful element to the space.
Symmetry is an essential element in the layout design of this living room. The fireplace with its hot-rolled steel surround, was designed to emphasize the height of the space, and by doing so basically divides the room in two, you can see how the symmetry element was played upon with the art choices and placement on both sides of the fireplace. Another space where we see the symmetry being emphasized is in the built-in shelving units on both sides of the opening to the kitchen and dining area that also divides the space.
A good neutral color palette is an essential part of this look, so I’ve put together for you a compilation of my favorite 24 Neutral Paint Colors, it’s completely free so feel free to press the button below and grab your copy.

Dining Room
The dining room is anchored by the chandelier in bronze and white glass. The way industrial elements like bolsters and the finish of the table were incorporated in the design plays with the industrial feel of the space. The built-in shelving unit that serves as a bar also maintains the use of finishes used throughout the loft in order to maintain a continued flow from space to space.
The buffet and shelves above it, all custom made also play on the already used materials, the hot-rolled steel shelves are a nudge to the industrial feel of the apartment and former industrial use of the building.
Kitchen
The kitchen, which is incorporated to the dining room, also plays on the industrial elects of the design even though it does it by incorporating new materials. The wood finish you can see is the same used through the loft, and in this case the stainless steel professional hood, stove and fridge play on the industrial feel.
The countertop has a color that is easy to maintain in a house that is really lived in and the stone backsplash in its leather finish ads a balance to the space by incorporating a natural element.
Bedroom
The bedroom also incorporates the same finishes used throughout the loft and this shows you how a coherent and well thought out design is put together. You can see that the flooring option is the same, the crisp white wall paint is used throughout the spaces shown, and the hot-rolled steel doors of the armoire are the same used in the fireplace.

HOW TO INCORPORATE MODERN INDUSTRIAL ELEMENTS TO YOUR DECOR
Now that we have done our research and made sure that this loft has the modern industrial aesthetic we are going for we are going to start identifying the materials, colors, and finishes that help achieve the modern industrial look we are craving.
I’m all for incorporating particular elements of a certain style through my designs, I don’t like the spaces I design to feel like a theme that is why choosing the key elements you want in a style is key. Decor trends tend to have a life span and/or you simply grow tired of it so make sure to mix it up, don’t go out buying every single piece that screams industrial at you. When you do this the trend starts to grow old on you, by mixing it up you won’t actually feel it because you have other pieces to balance the overall look of your space.
INSPIRATION BOARDS
Inspiration boards are key for my design process: they help me identify the elements that I identify the most with the style, the elements that I really like, composition of elements that can be used, all sorts of design details I love for a certain style can come through and become more evident through inspiration boards.
Modern industrial decor can be achieved by using different schools of design, this means we will see many types of designs: some with mid-century elements, others with some boho mixed into them, others with traditional or contemporary pieces. This is why putting together your design board is going to be super helpful.
Don’t know where to start? I’ll share with you my favorite tool for this: PINTEREST, here is a link to my profile where I have tons of pins for you to find the perfect space.
Here is an example of the greatness of Pinterest, take a look at the amount of inspiration that comes up with a search for “modern industrial decor”
Once you have an image that you want to save, you click on it and the click on the red SAVE button and that’s it, you have it saved on your inspiration board.
Make sure you save all the images that inspire you, and in which you see elements that you like. This way you later identify better what are the elements of the modern industrial trend that speak the most to you.
MATERIALS AND COLORS
MATERIALS
There are some materials that are linked to the industrial look: wood, concrete, brick, steel and leather. This are the main materials associated with the style for me.
Remember that you don’t have to choose every single piece in your space in these materials, they are simply a guide to help you see which elements you want to incorporate into your space. For example, if your space already has a brick wall either painted or exposed you have one material down and can start focusing on other elements. If you don’t have a brick wall don’t worry you can choose a wood floor to add the look, or a vintage black lamp (that resembles steel), and start bringing in those modern industrial elements.
What makes the loft by Croma Design so appealing and timeless is that they didn’t work with every single one of the materials I mention above, you pick and choose and this is the key element in getting a modern industrial look that is timeless as a result.
COLORS
The colors that should be present in your modern industrial elements are: white, black, grey and browns. This doesn’t mean that you have to choose a brown paint color – same example as above if you have an exposed brick wall the brown element is done for you and you can focus on adding the other elements to your space.
Black doesn’t necessarily mean black paint, use as an example the dark wood floors from the modern industrial loft shown as inspiration, they count as the black element even though some other black elements are also used. The black clean floors are the perfect modern element to balance out the industrial theme and create a timeless decor.
